Over the past four years, I have enjoyed growing as a person at Fredonia State University. I am honored to have been selected as a candidate for a student commissioner position and it is with great humility that I write this essay. I worked hard and my contributions at school shaped who I became. I provided a hardworking and humble role model to my peers throughout my studies, athletic performance, and planning community service events. Playing for the Fredonia volleyball team allowed me to be a part of something bigger than myself. Every day I have been empowered to improve as an athlete and leader in order to give back to Fredonia. From the first day of preseason, freshman year, I chose hard work over complacency and fought to represent SUNY in Fredonia as best I could. Whether on or off the field, I knew that I was not only a Fredonia student, but also an athlete who should not bring negative attention to the school. I welcomed many recruits to the team and my coach gave me the majority of them, saying that I was someone who would be a positive role model for the students and parents. Many of these recruits chose Fredonia and said I was one of the reasons they loved this school so much. I have dedicated many hours to becoming as strong as possible and I believe I will leave a lasting mark on the volleyball program. During my senior season, I was very happy to break the total assist record for Fredonia volleyball. The record was broken under my name, but it was a stat that my teammates helped me earn. Being a starter since the first year and floor captain since the second year allowed me to improve my leadership skills....... middle of paper ......p to the success of a training program solid education and a volleyball program from the start. My leadership, volleyball performance, and community service have contributed to the school and I believe I should receive the honor of becoming a student marshal. During my years in Fredonia, it wasn't about recognition, it was about working hard and never settling. for less than my best. I shared my enthusiasm with others for their accomplishments and would also like to congratulate all the students who had the opportunity to become a student commissioner. I hope that with the contributions I have made to Fredonia, it has become a better place. I strongly believe in leading by example and I believe I have given Fredonia students a great role model to follow through their hard work, leadership and humility. I am honored to be considered for this role.
