Due to the accelerated development of technology, highly sophisticated weapons are now available for use in wars. Wars also cause widespread destruction, disrupt communications, and hinder trade. Thus, they cause heavy financial losses and great suffering to populations. The effects of wars often affect countries not involved in the conflict. The threat of war can push a nation to waste immense amounts of money on defense instead of spending on developmental works like building roads, hospitals, schools and much more. War can stop the development of a country. Some countries try to achieve their political desires by using terrorism as a weapon against other countries. Terrorism sows fear among civilians through acts of violence such as killings and hostage taking. This intimidation has turned into a global threat. Since the Union declared independence from Great Britain in 1776, their country has been part of a violent side of the world. The struggle for independence cost thousands of American lives, including royal country soldiers. During this time, the Union had created thirteen small colonies on the eastern seaboard of the North American continent. Throughout the next century, the thirteen colonies expanded across the continent, fulfilling their manifest destiny.
