    Set in East Germany, 1989, the film tells the story of a family composed of a mother, a son and of a girl. The mother, Christiane, is a staunch socialist and member of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) party. Christiane is deeply shaken by this, but it only increases her passion for the GDR. One day, she sees her son, Alex, demonstrating against the Berlin Wall and being apprehended by the police. Christiane suffered a heart attack because of this sight and fell into a coma for 8 months. During this period, many things changed, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dissolution of the GDR, and the reunification of West and East Germany. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, socialism was in decline and capitalism began to flourish with the sharp increase in consumer goods. Knowing that his mother worked as a socialist all her life, Alex wanted to hide the outside world from her and pretend that nothing had happened and that the GDR was still in power over East Germany. Towards the very end, his mother finally finds out thanks to Alex's girlfriend, who tells him all this....
