It is this type of “work” that is neglected by society. Women are not paid for their household responsibilities and this is overlooked by society, as it is something they are forced to do, as part of their gender role. It is clear that whether a woman is in paid employment or not, she will always take on at least two thirds of all household and parenting duties and responsibilities (ESRC, 2013). Gender inequality within the household has an immense influence on gender inequality in the workplace, which is based on gender biases. Padavic and Reskin (2002) highlight three of the main arguments in favor of gender inequality: the sexual division of labor, the devaluation of women's work and the construction of gender roles at work. The sexual division of labor is the distribution of tasks between men and women. . Often, these tasks will be labeled as men's or women's work, which influences the division of tasks between men and women, as employers will adopt certain expectations about who should perform specific tasks. Although these expectations vary from society to society and evolve over time, the division of labor will persist and men and women will continue to perform different tasks (Padavic and Reskin).,
