  • Essay / Muslim Brotherhood Overview - 803

Islamic fundamentalism is based on Islamic ideology. It is also seen as a group of religious ideologies attempting to return to the basics of Islam. The Muslim Brotherhood originated in Egypt in 1928. The Muslim Brotherhood is a transnational, anti-colonial Sunni Islamist movement that attempts to integrate Islam into politics and government. Brotherhood members believe that the Quran and Sunnah should form the basis of government (Johnson, 2014). Today, the Muslim Brotherhood has two important principles: “1) The introduction of Islamic Sharia as the basis for controlling the affairs of state and society. 2) Work toward the unification of Islamic countries and states, primarily among the Arab states, and their liberation from foreign imperialism” (Johnson, 2014). They are also not satisfied with the Western military presence. After the tragic attacks of September 11, the United States invaded Afghanistan. From this invasion, we have troops installed in military bases and the Muslims are not happy. The American army occupies a large part of the territory in several countries in the Middle East. Some countries that are unhappy with it are Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and Afghanistan. These are not the only causes of these fundamentalist groups. Another cause lies in the economic problems of the Middle East. These third world countries can completely crush the dreams of Muslims.
