  • Essay / A comparison of the Bhagavad Gita and the Gospels

Coming from a Western culture, it is easy to become familiar with the Gospels compared to any other written text. In order to get a different perspective on life's outlook, it is best to compare the Gospels to another written text. One text that is an excellent candidate to appear alongside the Gospels is the Bhagavad-Gita (or simply the Gita). These two texts can describe the similarities and differences between the two cultures presented: Christianity and Hinduism. Keeping an open mind when reading cultural texts is what makes the texts more interesting and informs the reader more clearly. Analyzing between a Western text and a non-Western text can really broaden a person's perspective. Since Krishna of the Gita appears to be very similar in many ways to Jesus Christ of the Bible, some have said that the authors of the New Testament may have used ideas from ancient Hindu scriptures. In Christianity, with Jesus, readers see a great emphasis on miracles, love, and forgiveness. Middle of paper......spirit'” (John 3:5). And Krishna says, “He who serves me faithfully with devotional discipline transcends the qualities of nature and shares the infinite mind” (Gita 124). The perfect way to compare two cultures is to see the scriptures of both cultures and point. the similarities and differences between the two. Looking at the Bhagavad-Gita and comparing it to the Gospels of the Bible, it is clear that both texts contain many philosophical and spiritual ideas. By comparing these ideas with each other, readers can see that the main themes between these two texts concerned religion, morality, and spirituality. Using these themes to base certain judgments about the text can really help to analyze in depth the fact that, although these two cultures may be different in terms of structure, the two religions are actually not very different in terms of personality..
