A serial killer is traditionally defined as a person who has murdered three or more people over a period of more than a month, with a time out (a "cooling off period") between the murders. The motivation for killing is usually based on psychological gratification (Wikipedia). Ted Bundy was a notorious murderer, not because he killed innocent people, but what he did with the bodies afterwards is what made him famous. Bundy was a necrophiliac and a very sick man. Necrophilia involves having sex with a corpse. Therefore, Ted Bundy knew exactly that what he was doing wasn't crazy, just pure evil.
