Essay / Not Ducks: Phil Robertson - 821
I had to explain that. Duck Dynasty is a show about a group of rural Americans who became famous by producing and marketing a specific brand of duck appeal. duck which is either very effective or just generally appreciated. It turned them into serious stars. To put things in perspective, Duck Dynasty was getting HIGHER viewing figures than Breaking Bad and it's a critically acclaimed show. I guess this is a brutal analysis of what it means to be in the duck call manufacturing industry. However, this doesn't interest me as I don't hunt and as hunting in the UK is the domain of posh buggers, the culture of hunting is rather different. I like duck but not enough to personally invest in shooting them from the sky. .[warning]Contains racism/homophobia and a look at lynching as a method of fear and intimidation[/warning]The problem is "Phil Robertson". The guy who founded the company has some pretty nasty opinions about how the world works and what is and isn't acceptable. Start with homosexual behavior and move from there. Bestiality, sleeping with this woman and this woman and this woman and these men,” [Robertson] says. Then he paraphrases the Corinthians: “Do not be deceived. Neither adulterers, nor idolaters, nor prostitutes, nor homosexual offenders, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Make no mistake. It's not good. Deep down, he doesn't like homosexuals. I have never seen with my own eyes the mistreatment of a black person. Not once. Where we lived there were only farmers. Black people worked for farmers. I hoeed cotton with them. I'm with the blacks, because we are white trash. We cross the field...... middle of paper ...... gynecologists. Deep down, he's a homophobe and a racist. And the problem is not that he said these things but that people support him. Like Ian Bayne who is running for Congress next year. It's rare that I go past Ed Brayton for stupid American Wingnut statements, but Ian Bayne's statement is just fantastic. See Ian Bayne thinks Phil Robertson is our generation's Rosa Parks. “In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against unjust societal persecution. black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against the persecution of Christians: “What Parks did was courageous, what Mr. Robertson did was courageous too. » No, Mr. Bayne, I'm afraid Roberson here would probably have told Rosa. Parks that she was making a fuss over nothing and that she would be happier if she stopped complaining. In short, not only homophobic but racist too.
