SR Crown Hall, home to the College of Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, is one of the most beautiful and modern pieces of architecture that the city of Chicago has to offer its residents. . This simple steel and glass structure is the perfect representation of the modernist era of architecture and truly creates an extremely captivating atmosphere for its viewers. When viewed during the day, the glass panels reflect the sky around it and create an almost seamless transition between its sleek, rectangular steel frame and the vast space around it, making it a jewel of the University campus. Illinois Institute of Technology. and also to the city of Chicago.SR Crown Hall, designed by German architect Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, originally part of the Armor Institute of Technology, a technical training school in the city. The school had named him chair of the architecture department in 1938 with high hopes that he would be able to grow the program into an internationally recognized one. After moving to Chicago from Germany, he redesigned the school's architecture program and hoped he could help students understand the relationships between architecture, history, and the environment in order to develop inspiring structures and influential women who applied these fundamental principles. In 1940, the Armor Institute became the Illinois Institute of Technology. Then, 16 years later, Ludwig Mies van de Rohe's masterpiece comes to life. In 1956, one of his best-known buildings in the city of Chicago, known as SR Crown Hall, was completed. This building captures all the things that Ludwig had inspired his students to capture in their work. I am extremely blown away by steel and glass structures and so I am very happy to have been able to talk about this structure. I didn't go inside because I was short on time, but I plan to go back and find a way to visit or tour the building. As I said before, I was extremely moved by this building. Given my background in architecture, I strongly suggest and encourage people to go see it. I admire it a lot and I think it's amazing. It has much to offer the city of Chicago through its architectural and historical significance. Over the years, Ludwig Mies van de Rohe's masterpiece has become a vital gem of the IIT campus and the city of Chicago and I also think this building should be better known to Chicagoans..
