IntroductionAccording to Quinn (2000, p. 200), "evaluation is the exercise of judgment on the quality of students' work, as a means of support student learning and evaluate the results. ยป Contemporary nursing education should focus on both what the student nurse or midwife is expected to do as well as how it should be done (Palomba & Banta 2001, p. 71). This article will therefore critically analyze the following five questions. First, was the assessment conducted fairly and accurately? Secondly, it will seek to answer the question of whether the assessment decision is justified? Third, it will also be necessary to determine whether the feedback to the learner was timely and constructive? Fourth, it will address the issue of clarity and ambiguity of the document and, finally, whether professional responsibility has been taken into account will be discussed. The evaluation process must be fair to the nursing student or midwifery student and transparent to everyone. (West, Clark and Jasper 2008, p. 159). This scenario represents less fairness to the student. For example, Jackie thinks Gina is useless. This statement is quite discouraging to the student nurse or midwife and it also seems very negative and quite unfair. According to RCN (2007, p. 11), the mentor must be constructive and avoid negative comments. Jackie did not communicate her feelings to Gina so that she could have the opportunity to improve her concerns. Perhaps with a little motivation, Gina could have seemed more useful. Motivation is the inner force that drives someone to act in a certain way (Cherry & Jacob 2005, p. 372).
