  • Essay / The Dumbest Generation - 1048

Mark Bauerlein considers today's society intellectually stupid. He believes that the technology of our time benefits us in many ways, but people's understanding and knowledge of this phenomenon has not yet happened. Technology has made it easier to quickly access information anywhere and everywhere. Our brain no longer holds knowledge. They are no longer information storage units, but piles of mush that we cram into our heads to fill the empty space. Our phones and televisions feed us daily with useless information and, just like food, once it goes in, it always comes out. We can remember pieces of information, but not all of it is stored in our brain. I agree with Bauerlein about the younger generations and they lack knowledge but technological advancement. Although many may argue that younger generations are not under-educated, advances in technology make it easy for media and the internet to indoctrinate a new, lazier, more materialistic way of life, making them the world's fastest growing generation. stupider. Phones are mostly used by everyone, but the way they are used is ruining professional work environments. Schools and business offices are being invaded by cell phones. Many consider it a mini-computer that fits in your hands. Its small size and portable features allow anyone to easily slip it into these environments. The reason there are phones in these places is because of its many features. At school it is easy to contact friends. By writing a quick message, a student can communicate with a friend sitting next door or in a completely different class in less time. This exchange of messages is often not noticed by teachers. Bauerlein is right that the digital enlightenment... middle of paper ... in the game should stay in the game. That they shouldn't do what they see in the real world. When television is used to view morally reprehensible content, our generation loses the opportunity to progress in intelligence. As tomorrow's leaders and the first generations to have access to new media, we must learn to use technology to benefit our future. Advances in technology should be accompanied by advances in knowledge and intellectual intelligence. We should allow our brains to obtain information not only from the Internet, but also from multiple versions of media. If different types of media are offered to us for learning, we should use them to our full advantage. Hopefully, more of the knowledge passed on to our brains will stay with us through the ages, so that one day we can be the ones to pass all this information on to future generations..
