    I discovered that after leaving New York, he returned to the Midwest. Because he saw how the love of money can ruin someone, he decided not to work for his father but to do something he truly loved. He wanted to make a positive impact on the world to make up for all the negativity he saw and was separated from in New York. For a while he couldn't figure out what it was, so he worked odd jobs here and there until the Great Depression hit. During the Great Depression, Nick lived with his parents while looking for work. He discovered that he loved writing, but most of all he loved telling people's stories the way he told the story of Gatsby. Nick then began writing editorials and sending them to newspapers. His editorials became famous in local newspapers and eventually one of them hired him. He fell in love with his work and the people he interviewed. By telling people's stories, Nick felt he was making a positive impact. He made sure their voices were heard and that they were not
