Essay / Liberation Beyond Gender - 713
Our perceptions of the differences between men and women rely heavily on current popular beliefs about the mind, body, and evolution. Hastings Donan rightly notes that “although sex is a biological drive, it is rarely experienced in the same way all over the world: it is practiced and experienced differently depending on the social and cultural contexts in which it occurs. » This justifies that it is indeed our cultural patterns which have exaggerated the assertions about human sexual differences. Let's carefully examine each of the common assumptions that have been ingrained in us and refute them to challenge the myth about patterns of human sex differences. Myth 1: Men and women are biologically very different from each other. Male and female bodies have many differences. but they largely overlap in structure and function. We can easily focus on hairstyles, clothing, cultural behavior and modern ideas about gender and being masculine or feminine, but very few of these correspond to the actual biological patterns of our species. When we look at size dimorphism in males and females, we look at the average differences in size and conclude that males are 10-15% larger than females. However, we ignore the wide range of variations of individual digits that overlap several times. The way women walk, which involves swaying the hips, is due to the outward flaring of the female pelvic bone, emphasized by many as a hyper-feminine behavior. Surprisingly, men and women are made of the same genital matter, the tissues that make up the reproductive system are the same in men and women – it's the same thing that develops but with different results. There are no consistent and clear gender contexts that highlight differences in sexual activity and often women's sexuality is limited by cultural values and social institutions. As David Schmit summarizes, women never exactly match men's sociosexual psychology, but their overall level of sociosexuality approaches that of men when given the opportunity. We need a broader understanding of sex, love, companionship and communion. In fact, the very act of cooperative behavior between a man and a woman is the key to our successful existence. Differences and exploitation arise when there is a desire for domination and power. As long as there is a search for power and domination, humanity will not be able to progress further. Being human, taking doses does not mean looking for differences in each of us, it means accepting individuality and uniqueness and aiming for liberation..
