However, the longer he remains transformed, the more estranged his family becomes, and one of the biggest complications he faces is his inability to connect with his family and communicate to them how grateful he is. Gregor's response demonstrates how intensifying barriers can completely break down relationships, even if they are unwanted. Gregor constantly made serious efforts to be a part of his family mentally, even if he couldn't be physically.
