ames were played before we started recording time. Almost 50 years ago, games took on a new form. Magnavox Odyssey can be considered the first gaming console. 50 years ago and today, video games have become essential in every living room and a hobby for every young child. Companies emerged from this new industry to produce games aimed at young investors and dominate the gaming world. With new technologies, graphics and software: game franchises managed mainly through public support. With each passing decade, games are changed by the American public. These games change depending on how the audience perceives them. Magnavox Odyssey (created by Ralph Baer) has been debated to be the first video game and the first console. Atari, released 2 years after the Odyssey, Senger Emily states "In 1977 with the launch of the Atari 2600 video game console. Atari dominated the domestic market in the 70s and 80s." Atari is the first video game company to emerge on American soil and dominate the video games market. The Magnavox Odyssey sold alongside Magnavox televisions and advanced the idea that the gaming system only worked on their televisions. With the arrival of the Atari 2600 video game console, they released Pong, similar to Odyssey's racket and ball game, a new game that sold better than its rival Odyssey. "Atari's position as the leading video game console brand fell in the early 1980s, when competitors flooded the market and quality in the industry declined, leading to the gaming crash video from 1983", which Senger Emily claims was the downfall of Atari. Due to their problems after the video game crash, 'by 1992, Atari's share of the North American video game market had fallen to just 12%. » (Senger) Atari changed CEO to tramiel in 1989, which never allowed the company to stay afloat.
