    Which child wants his parents to be separated, which means that his family will be divided? No one really does it, especially kids. In the United States, there is a 40 to 50 percent chance that married couples will end in divorce. Most of these married couples have children and studies have shown that divorces do indeed affect these children. There are a few cases where the children want the divorce to take place. But this is usual, because there are intense conflicts between the parents (Emery). Divorce clearly increases the risk that children will suffer psychological and behavioral problems. Parent-child relationships develop tensions that lead to loss of contact with one parent who appears to leave, creating economic hardship (Emery). A study was conducted to determine which parent had sole custody of the children. “Most participants – seventy-four percent – ​​said they lived with their mother after divorce or separation, while eleven percent said they lived with their father; the remainder lived with other guardians or grandparents” (Emery). These seventy-four percent have probably lost the bond or relationship with their father and the remaining eleven percent have lost this close bond with their mother. It is a difficult situation when the child loves both parents and sees that these two only show hatred towards each other. Divorces add many stressors to children, especially adolescents. Teenagers are always afraid that everything will change after a divorce, which adds to these stressors. They try to live between two different households, which gives them more responsibilities. Their standard of living will change if they live with separated parents; most of the time it always decreases.
