Essay / The Relationship Between Race and Ideology - 979
The Relationship Between Race and IdeologyIn this essay I will argue that the key to ending racism is understanding race and ideology and how these two concepts are related to each other.Appiah asserts that race does not exist. It uses scientific methods to prove that individuals from different groups of people do not have genetic differences between them that are greater than the genetic differences between individuals from the same group of people. He writes: “…human genetic variability between the populations of Africa, Europe or Asia is not much greater than within these populations…” With Ceci, he attempts to demonstrate that if he There are no biological differences between populations, except for differences due to the habitat in which a certain population has lived for many years. It therefore proves that there is no precise meaning of the word race. Appiah uses the writings of WE DuBois in his discussions of race, his technique is to cite an argument made by DuBois and provide sufficient evidence to refute it. He does so with several statements and concludes that race is a misconception. Although it divides the world's population into races and provides answers to racism, it does not give explicit meaning to the word race. He uses history, culture, and languages to form several groups of people he calls races. Loewen's discusses 12 American history books and focuses on how all of them attempt to hide racism against black people throughout American history. It shows that even the great ancestors of the United States were racist, that they all owned slaves, and that they did not view black people as equal. He also writes about the many years of beatings and lynchings that blacks endured, even you...... middle of paper... some high scores from blacks to fill the quota. The controversial part is that it doesn't show that this gap actually occurs because black people have been oppressed for a long time, and that until the last hundred years (or less) they have been able to develop culturally and economically, so they have an economic deficit that prevents black people from getting the best education possible. On the other hand, whites have an economic advantage: their children receive a better education and are more likely to achieve better outcomes. Additionally, this deficiency changes a black child's priorities because they will be more interested in attending a technical school or community college so they can start working more quickly and help support the family. In conclusion, I would like to say that race is a dangerous word.Bibliography:
