  • Essay / Lesson Analysis - 865

Warm-up exercises are a fantastic way to engage students in the lesson ahead. Incorporating fun activities motivates students to stay focused. I will use warm-up exercises relating to social studies, current events, and history or perhaps pose a word problem or two when I begin teaching social studies to middle school students. I don't think a warm-up exercise should always be directly related to the lesson, sometimes it just serves to get students thinking. It's interesting how well the same techniques (such as using warm-up exercises) used with children also work with adult students. I think my classmates and I really enjoyed the fun exercises you provided. I noticed that I increased my ability to solve homework problems. The skills I learned over the past quarter have started to really sink in. I apply previously learned concepts to new lessons. By repeating old ideas, I begin to have a solid understanding of basic math concepts. With this new confidence, I am ready to answer more questions in class than at the beginning of the term. My confidence level has definitely increased. I also find myself getting answers correct more often than before. Using manipulatives to teach mean, median, and mode was very helpful. Instead of just reading the definition in the textbook, I have a conceptual or practical application on how to define the term statistics. Using different types of graphs or charts to display statistics is a great way to visualize data. I rather like creating graphs and charts to show data, I can understand these types of patterns better than I can understand data written in paragraph form. Using an image... middle of paper... was wrong, and I knew how to fix it. I just went there and figured it out! It came so easily, it's never happened to me before. I realize that sometimes math problems take time to solve. The answers aren't always obvious. In these situations, it helps to know several different resolution strategies. I may have to try different strategies until I find the one that works for me. I am so happy to see progress in my ability to do math. I have a new perspective on how I will teach math to my students. I definitely don't have the anxiety I had at the start of the term. I will not show anxiety to my students when teaching unfamiliar topics, as I will only hinder their progress and learning. I will show them that math is easy by giving them positive feedback and allowing them to use different techniques that suit their learning style..
