When I consider living a life without social media, I envision more time to think about the important things, not status updates or numbers of likes I could get on a certain post. I see myself being satisfied with what I have, where I am, and who I am. After experiencing a social media fast, I became aware of the negative and dangerous effects it had on myself and the relationships I had with others. Social media kept me busy and numbed from reality, it was a dangerous place to rest. There’s more to life than getting a certain number of likes or having a certain number of followers. As defined: Social media is the use of dedicated websites and applications to communicate informally with users or to find people who share similar interests. The definition seems innocent, but it doesn't include the addiction it causes that holds you captive without being aware of it. Since being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, I have had to eliminate caffeine from my diet. For a caffeine addict, it wasn't easy. I would drink up to 10 cups of coffee a day as an antidote to numb my anxiety...
