The town of Ribbleton lies on relatively flat land located along the River Ribble in England. The city's climate remains stable at 10 degrees Celsius, which is typical for a city located in this location. Most days in Ribbleton are cloudy and rainy, which adds to the low temperatures. 50,000 people reside in this city, so transportation is a key factor. Nearly half of the world's population lives in cities, so it is important that these people can move around easily; whether because of cars, bikes or trains. Most of the problems cities face when it comes to transportation are traffic, the environment, and the capacity that transportation can hold. These problems occur in every town, including Ribbleton, but engineers have found solutions to solve these problems. One of these solutions is a Straddle bus. The Straddle Bus is a form of mass transport that “straddles” the road. It is intended that cars can pass through, but as Ribbleton does not use cars due to the environmental impact they cause, bicycles are the alternative. This infrastructure is futuristic in design because although there were buses and roads in 2013, there are currently no buses straddling the roadway allowing vehicles to pass underneath. Ribbleton also has passenger trains which run on underground tracks. These trains do not follow or parallel the roads above, but rather provide less direct routes for passengers. The Straddle Bus lines up with main roads for a more direct journey. One of Ribbleton's many problems includes public transportation, but the Straddle Bus solves that problem. Ribbleton's transport system involves the most environmentally efficient and fitness-oriented solution for its citizens. Citizens have the option of pedaling on the ground, riding on the surface or underground to get to their destination. The integration of the routes for the Straddle Bus and the cyclist emphasizes the symbiotic relationship the city has. Ribbleton is dedicated to being an environmentally friendly and sustainable town, making it a great place to live.
