Essay / Human Rights: No Slavery - 1918
Human Rights - No SlaveryThe issue of slavery dates back to the times of the ancient Egyptians, and even before that. Many people don't realize it today, but slavery remains a problem in some parts of the world, even though slavery was abolished in the 19th century. Slavery, also known as forced labor, is more prevalent among children and women today, as well as in developing countries where rules and laws are not as regulated. Today, most slavery occurs in countries like Asia and Africa, where children are forced to become soldiers and women are forced into the sex industry. Although slavery is not widespread in the United States, we still need to be aware of it globally and help take a stand against it to ensure that all humans are treated with dignity and human rights . A few years ago, a declaration was adopted called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states that “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade are prohibited in all their forms. Like any other "law", this one is doomed to be broken or abused, and most countries where slavery is practiced may not even have the slightest idea what this statement is. Some children are even born into slavery because of their families, and young children are even kidnapped and enslaved this way. Every human deserves to be treated with the same rights as the next human and no human being should be able to reign supreme over another human and make that person your personal servant. No human should be forced to do unwanted work that harms them and puts them in an unsafe environment. A lot of this happens in places like Africa where slaves are captured and forced to work on plants...... middle of paper ......014. “Torture, inhuman or degrading treatment.” hrea.org. HREA.
