  • Essay / Analysis of The Love Song of J. Alfred by TS Eliot...

For example, in the poem he says: “…It's time to turn around and go down the stairs, With a bald spot in the middle of my hair- [They will say: “How his hair is becoming so fine!] My jacket, my collar rising firmly to the chin, My necklace rich and modest, but affirmed by a simple pin- [They will say: “But how her arms and legs are so fine! »]…” This quote is an example of Prufrock overthinking situations. He wants to go to the party and ask a question, but can't help but wonder if he will be judged by the people at the party because of his baldness and thin body. But a typical person today would recognize the fact that people attending the party will be concerned about the party they are attending rather than minor details about it. This is another example where Prufrock is not typical of people today. People today tend to overthink things, but Prufrock takes it a step further by overthinking things that normal people wouldn't think about and allows this to affect every choice he makes, even the simplest of his life.
