Essay / The Godfather Analysis - 695
The novel The Godfather is written about the influence of the Italian mafia on New York during the period of the 1930s-1960s. This is the story of a particular crime family the Corleones. This great tale of the reins of the Corleones is a realistic fiction novel written by Mario Puzo. The story itself takes place in New York, where the Five Families manage just about everything, from the fishermen in the ocean to the clothes you have at the store. The Corleones were the most powerful family at the time, controlling many police officers and politicians. It all begins when a Turk named Sollozzo arrives and attempts to gain legal protection from the Corleones for his new narcotics operation. Sollozzo already has the Tattaglias behind them and secretly the most powerful family in terms of brute force, the Barzinis. But the greatest man in the world, Don Vito Corleone, politely declines Sollozzo's offer and tells him that they should have no problem since their businesses do not interfere with each other. Well, that leads to the Don being shot dead in the street. He is shot 5 times in the back, but survives to settle the mob war that soon breaks out. It's an all-out war between the remaining families and the Corleones. The Don goes through a series of misfortunes, his eldest son is shot, his second son is sent away from home for fear of being harmed, and his youngest son Michael Corleone spends three years hiding in Sicily after committing the murders of Le Police Captain McCluskey and Turk Sollozzo. Months later, when the Don is fully recovered, he soon learns of his son's death and calls a meeting between the five families to seek peace. He invites not only the Five Families, but also all the crime families across the country...... in the middle of the newspaper...... he talks about how Don Vito Corleone ended up dying because after that, The story really went downhill. I believe my novel is a classic because it accurately captures what it was like to have the influence of the mafia in the world, even at the time it was written, so in this meaning, it comes at the right time. Plus, the book is timeless because it was first published in 1969, and 42 years later it's still flying off the shelves, it holds the record for best-selling copies, it's a story whose people still talk. And on top of that, it has a theme that touches all cultures throughout life, being loyal to friends and family. In this story, loyalty is everything, and having friends is the greatest power of all. Those who have friends will always be better off. And everyone has at least one friend. So overall this book is one of the best and I think everyone should read it..
