Essay / Biology: what is a chromosomal mutation? - 590
A mutation is a change in DNA. An organism's DNA affects its appearance and behavior. This can be any change in the genetic sequence. As Christians, we realize that genes change over time. The way our DNA can be modified is due to multiple reasons: UV rays reach it, radiation or even replication errors. There are different types of mutations and we will talk about them later in this article. Before researching the topic of mutations, my initial thought is: some sort of abnormally gross growth on or in the creatures of this world (notes, American). One type of mutation is a genetic mutation, where only one gene is affected. However, scientists and others use the word gene to mean two different things: it is either a piece of DNA that codes for a protein or a specific trait. Sometimes in these situations the amino acid is not even affected. These mutations can occur in two ways: they can be inherited from a parent or occur during the person's lifetime. Types of genetic mutations are insertion and deletion, i.e. when the reading frame is shifted...
