Banquo and Macbeth finally arrive and talk to the witches. They question them, wondering what they are, and despite a simple answer, they talk to Macbeth about his future. The witches tell Macbeth that he will eventually become the Thane of Cawdor and that he will ultimately become king. Astonished by these stories, Banquo asks the witches about his future, and is told that his sons will eventually become king. Like any man, Macbeth and his partner question these seemingly unofficial prophecies, until Angus and Ross enter the picture.
