Education and location inequalitiesSummary: Roscigno et al (2006) discuss spatial inequalities in educational attainment and achievement in this article. Local conditions shape family and school resources. Therefore, the availability of family and school resources varies across rural, inner-city, and suburban areas. The disparity of resources influences educational investment at the family and school level. Ultimately, success and achievement are different in these places. We see more family and school resources, higher achievement and results that we have. Therefore, students in suburban areas access higher education and achieve a higher level of education because they have more family and school resources. In contrast, deficits in family and school resources in rural areas and city centers lead to low achievement and outcomes. The authors mention that the family socio-economic context affects student achievement and outcomes. They remind us that students from higher socioeconomic backgrounds perform better because their parents can invest more time and money in the topic. Due to high poverty rates in inner cities and rural areas, parents in these places do not invest enough money and time in their children as their counterparts in suburban areas do. Therefore, low outcomes and results are expected in city centers and rural areas. Family structure is also affected by local economic opportunities due to family economic distress and unemployment. The high rate of single-parent families is observed in city centers, while out-of-wedlock pregnancies and family dissolution are increasing in rural areas. There is evidence that students from single-parent or blended families do not perform well in school...... middle of paper ...... and its effects on academic performance last week. For example, Zhou (2003) talks about the existing public facilities in these places, such as library, park and other recreational facilities. He mentioned that these public facilities could reduce educational inequalities. Comment: The authors indicate that “parental involvement does not, however, have a direct impact on results, but reduces the risk of dropping out of school”. Lareau (1987) mentions that “increasing parental participation in education has become a priority for educators, who believe that it promotes academic success”. Between these different perspectives on parental involvement, one of them should be right. I believe that parental involvement increases achievement because it is a kind of encouragement and it helps students succeed now in order to have a better life in the future..
