Essay / |||The healthy development of infants determines the overall well-being of the child throughout the growth process. Children should avoid illnesses and disorders that hinder their development. WIC programs, vaccinations, and early intervention measures help mitigate these risks. Vaccination is very important for children under five years old. They save lives. Misinformation about vaccines has had a negative impact on children in many parts of the world (Peet, n.d.). Peet (nd) gives examples of polio infection in Africa and measles in America to support his point. Vaccination protects children from deadly diseases that kill thousands of children every year. Today, these diseases kill fewer children, although epidemics still occur due to the lack of vaccination in some children. Before reaching the age of two, children should be vaccinated against diseases such as diphtheria, polio, measles, mumps and chicken pox (“10 Reasons to Get Vaccinated Before Age Two” , nd). Information related to understanding vaccination will help child development professionals suggest to parents which vaccine to give to their child. They will also be able to communicate to parents the deadlines for these vaccinations. As child development professionals, they will be well-positioned to explain to parents the negative effects of not ensuring their child receives vaccination. The term WIC is short for Women, Infants and Children. WIC programs are programs that aim to give women the best ways to care for children in order to prevent illness. WIC programs have greatly improved children's growth and development and at-risk health over the past 39 years ("Legislative Agenda," 201...... middle of document ......ts, but controversy persists - NYTimes.com Retrieved from http://www.nytimes.com/ref/health/healthguide/esn-vaccinations-ess.htmlStaywell, K.
