According to the article “Racism and Racism Denial: Dealing with the Academy and the Field” by Greenhill and Marshall, they state that racism is still part of our life. and in society due to history and ongoing incidents. They say a group of residents sing Stephen Foster's "Old Black Joe" at a retirement home in Altona, Manitoba, on December 31, 2009: "Where are the hearts once so happy and so free?" The children so dear that I held on my knees, Gone towards the shore where my soul desired to go. I hear their soft voices calling “Old Black Joe.” (Greenhill and Marshall 12) This song indicates where the society we aspire to be is, where people are free and happy to do things without fear, injustice, and bad vibes with each other. It is a reminder of where people have freedom, equality and justice without giving up their dignity. In the poem “From Summer, Somewhere” by Danez Smith, Smith writes, “You are not welcome here. Trust that the journey will kill you. go home. we gained this paradise thanks to a death that we did not deserve. (Smith) This shows that black people are not welcome in this society because of past histories and ongoing issues related to them and all these injustices that their brothers did not do are senseless and their brothers do not deserve it..
