Essay / Animal and human testing for the ethical treatment of...
Ordinary people use products without knowing who, what, where, why or how these products are made. Many companies neglect the use of animal testing because there are other ways to test their products without testing them on animals. If alternative methods have been discovered, more humane and more effective, why don't companies use them? By using alternative methods to animal testing, products and certain medications would be cheaper and more reliable for humans. How ethical is animal testing compared to other methods of testing cruelty-free medical products? Today, many people are simply looking for the most effective product to use. If animals are not used to test products, consumers are more likely to purchase those products. Humans are more susceptible to side effects because animals don't always get accurate results. Animals and humans are not exactly the same, so the reaction to a drug in an animal's body will be very different from a reaction in a human's body. Additionally, when an animal is under a lot of stress, it can lead to inaccurate results. Animal testing costs a huge amount of money because the animals must be fed, housed, cared for, and treated with a particular experimental substance. Different reactions to different medications are unique to each animal species. For example, penicillin kills guinea pigs but is completely inactive in rabbits. When tested on animals, the results are not always the same. Alternative methods would benefit businesses so they don't lose money when people start not buying their products.
