When a child faces his parents' divorce, it affects him emotionally, mentally and physically because he does not know how to cope with it. It also makes them lose their self-esteem and self-worth. Daran Brown is a new history teacher at a local high school and he's never taken a motivational class. His concern is with his sophomore, Caitlin. Caitlin is a new student who has just moved to Phoenix with her mother after her parents divorced. Daran thinks Caitlin is a smart student, but Caitlin has no motivation in her class. She gets a C in her class and doesn't take notes, especially when Daran reviews material for the next test in order to help the student be better prepared. Caitlin also makes jokes to the other students about school saying she doesn't care. She also complains that Daran's history class is boring and hard to get an A. However, Daran feels that Caitlin is unmotivated in his class. I would explain Caitlin's lack of motivation using Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
