  • Essay / In Organic We Trust, a documentary by Kip Pastor

Have you ever wondered if organic food is actually better for you? What if organic food isn't actually healthy and is just a huge scam by food companies to take your money? In the documentary In Organic We Trust, narrator Kip Pastor attempts to persuade viewers that although the food system may be flawed, organic foods are actually better to eat. The pastor's use of pathos and logos in this documentary is extremely credible and well structured, but the ethos of the pastor provided in this documentary is not as well structured as the pathos and logos. Pastor does a great job structuring the film In Organic We Trust, with the goal of getting his message across to viewers. In the documentary, in order to prove that organic food is better than regular industrialized food, Pastor uses three different types of arguments: pathos, ethos and logos. The film begins with the pastor introducing himself and explaining why he thinks organic food better shows his pathos and philosophy. Next, Pastor explains many misconceptions about agriculture and how food is grown, showing off his logos. Throughout the film, Pastor explains the truth about agriculture and not sugar in order to prove his message. At the beginning of this film, Pastor immediately begins the documentary by demonstrating his philosophy by introducing himself. The pastor then took to the streets of New York and asked random citizens if organic foods were better than normal industrialized foods. The majority of citizens answered: “Yes, organic food is better than normal industrial food.” However, when asked why organic foods are better than normal industrialized foods, almost all of the cit...... middle of paper ...... to the viewer's bias, because the two sides of agriculture were not presented properly. In Organic We Trust, Kip Pastor attempted to persuade viewers that while the food system may be flawed, organic foods are actually better to eat. Overall, throughout the film, the pastor's uses of pathos, ethos, and logos were used very accurately and effectively. Although Pastor's use of pathos and logos was better structured than ethos, all three types of arguments were credible and valid. Pastor's overall goals to educate viewers about organic foods and the food system were extremely watchable throughout the film. There is no doubt that the pastor's message is very powerful and compelling. The motivation behind this film is the reason for Pastor's success and credibility. Works cited in organic we trust. Real.
