Tattoos have been around for a while now and have always been a symbol of belonging, cultural expression or religion. Nowadays, individuals choose to get tattoos because it is part of their lifestyle or personal image. As their popularity continues to grow and they become a way of life, people are facing issues related to having visible tattoos in the job market. Although it is a form of free speech, employers have the right to enforce certain rules regarding tattoos in their business because they have a public image to uphold. How you present yourself to the public is the only important thing, which is why tattoos should not be allowed in the workplace, as they may appear offensive or unconservative. Even though tattoos are part of the culture and socially acceptable, negative aspects and prejudiced attitudes towards those who practice body art are still present. Not all tattoos are gang related and it should be noted that they have always been a symbol of a person's culture or religion. Other tattoos may simply have personal meaning to their owner and are not intended to be offensive. People also don't understand that a tattoo can prevent them from pursuing a professional career, regardless of their qualifications. Employers realize that the need to recruit workers from different backgrounds is important in such a competitive workforce, which is why they offer accommodations by having reasonable dress code policies.
