    From the 1890s to the 1920s, reformers began the Progressive Era. Reformers wanted to bring dominance and productivity to the United States after rapid growth and modern technology. Immigrants, called “New Immigrants,” from around the world settled in the United States, leading to overpopulation and poor working conditions. They were called “new immigrants” because they spoke no English and had extremely different cultures. All these factors have made it difficult for new immigrants to integrate and be accepted by citizens into society. The immigrants were poor and lived in horrible conditions. They started taking over citizens' jobs to earn money and live a better life. The citizens felt very threatened. Many factories would hire the new immigrants and make them work as much as ordinary citizens, but pay them much less. Additionally, working conditions in these factories were appalling and dangerous, leading to strikes, limitations, and new laws.
