Essay / Comparison of Conservatism and Socialism - 1791
The two ideological principles that I will discuss in this essay are conservatism and the socialist principle. Based on the books I chose, the views of each of these authors, their explanation towards society and the way in which these principles modify and disrupt our economic system, our way of living and the choices we make. In their case study; In Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny," his ideas and opinions on the dysfunction of the system are based on a conservative view and GA Cohen's book "Why Not Socialism?" giving a better way of organizing our system and creating harmony for society. Mark Levin centers his research and ideas on the influence of philosophers, including Adam Smith and John Locke to name a few. The conservative idea is based on the rights of human beings, the right to live freely and the natural rights granted by God. Levin explains what modern liberals want and their goal in government. He calls these liberals “statists” so as not to confuse the term “liberal”; a term that has been used in different ways over the years. He explains how these “statists” revere government and desire to expand its power for their own benefit, not for that of society as a whole. Levin explains how these modern liberals use state power to force change, resulting in soft tyranny. On the other hand, GA Cohen gives us an example of how society as a whole should be equal, help each other, share production. , and how a class-divided society disrupts human potential, he bases his studies on the idea of socialism and explains all his theories through a camping trip where everyone should be able to contribute and cooperate for the well-being of the group and the group effectiveness. the company. He explains that this example should be...... middle of paper ......are facing an economic crisis due to excessive spending. We pay taxes and social security knowing that these large sums of money are being used for other people and, in the long run, we will not benefit from them, even if it comes from our own salaries. But at the same time, Levin, like other conservatives, thinks something should be done to change our system in a “liberal” way. This means that without a sense of tyranny and absolute control over the government, instead of placing blame on presidents, candidates, governors, etc. precedents, we should stand up and propose solutions for the better of our society, uniting our ideas and arguments for the good. being of society as a whole, unifying the good aspects of everyone's views and opinions, leaving aside the differences between different ideological frameworks for the community as a whole.
