Essay / Virtual Teaching for High School and College Students
FLVS PaperTeachers traditionally teaches students in a classroom with a certain grade level. This method has worked for years without the need to reorganize the way a lesson is taught. As technology has improved and become accessible to students, its integration into classrooms has also grown. Distance education dates back to the early 1700s; however, over the years, distance education has transformed and evolved into different delivery methods (Shelly 519). In fact, most educational institutions today view distance education as courses delivered primarily through the Internet and delivering courses over the Internet in many different forms or modalities (Shelly 519). A virtual school is a school offered on the World Wide Web. This teaching method is offered to secondary school students as well as middle school students. What makes these courses unique is that they are convenient, flexible and accessible from any location. Online courses are accessible via the Internet or through a school network where a student can obtain assignments, take tests, read report cards; work on team projects and read notes. Some students decide to take an online course because of their location in a physical school, such as a student in a rural area, and some students decide to take an online course because of a disability or because they are homebound at home due to illness. Online schools also offer credit recovery. Credit recovery is defined as a means of regaining credit toward graduation for a course that a student was previously unable to earn in academic credit. The goal of credit recovery programs is to provide students with a way to stay in school and graduate on time (Shelly 520). Some of the benefits for students are...... middle of paper ......e, evaluate and assist instructors. And they are pioneers in performance-based education financing models (Tucker 5). If successful, virtual education demonstrates that innovative reforms can be easily integrated into the public school system. As a result, it is increasingly important to understand both the innovations emerging from online education and their potential to leverage reform on a much larger scale in public education.Works CitiedShelly, Gunter stall.
