Essay / Chicago Club Case Study - 1881
The Chicago Club officially came into existence in 1869. It all started when a social group of men wanted to get together to drink and play cards. It was later decided that they wanted to expand and that with each member they would each pay a membership fee. It is the first club that prides itself on its intimacy. Chicago Club “laws” prohibit members of the press from entering the building. They didn't let anyone get a glimpse of this exclusive club. There is a long waiting list to become a member of the Chicago Club. It is also very difficult to enter. A candidate needs a sponsoring member, a cooperator, numerous letters of support and a lot of patience. Until recently, even women were not allowed to enter. Before leaving we were advised to dress very formal and appropriate. I didn't understand until I went there. The hotel prides itself on its very classic and formal setting. It is very selective and only invited people can participate. People who pass by the building every day usually don't know what it is. In the hall, the students in our class were immediately greeted. We were able to store our coats in the locker room. From the moment we entered the premises I was personally treated with respect. I'm sure everyone was treated the same, especially its members. While touring, I noticed the spacious atmosphere. The room where we gathered to meet was large, quiet, and decorated in what I would call manly decor. In a very ancient way, the space was made up of lounge chairs with open windows. Throughout the tour, many pieces were unique to me. Like the fire room, as they call it. This is a room reserved for club members who come from another club. It's all about exclusivity. The view of the building was incredible. There was a perfect view of the lake and Chicago. The club is known for its magnificent view. The hotel itself does not have guests walking through the door like most traditional hotels.
