  • Essay / Le Corbusier's Poetic Architecture Essay - 1040

Le Corbusier kept natural objects around him to inspire his imagination throughout his life. From the outside of the facade, the windows appear tiny, but inside they open onto a large white aperture that casts reflected light into the dark room. Some small windows are painted and bring colored light into the church. However, Le Corbusier's intention was to emphasize the drama of light and accentuate sacred space. Le Corbusier used curved reinforced concrete surfaces to generate a bold, organic form. Since its construction, the building has evoked poetic notions in the mind of the tourist observing the play of light and shadow on different surfaces both inside and outside.
