Essay / My Career: My Dream Career in Social Work - 1675
I have spent the majority of my life in small towns and long for the chance to spend time in an urban setting. After meeting people from the Detroit area at school, I understand that the city is starting to rebound, but not to what it was before. I don't know if Detroit will ever become an industrial powerhouse again. I hope for a smaller, eclectic city, full of diverse individuals. As a young social worker interested in working with communities, I see myself intervening in the region and helping to lead the way in promoting social change in Detroit. I am a very proud Michigander and plan to call this state my home for a long time. It would be an incredible experience to help Detroit rise from the ashes and become something magnificent. On a more personal note, I'm a huge Detroit sports fan (no, living in the UP hasn't turned me into a "cheesehead"), so living in an area where I can actually attend the events that I see on TV would be a great addition to my personal life. Also, one of my favorite hobbies is playing music. I often play shows at local venues singing and playing guitar. With Detroit's incredible musical history, living in the city would expand the musical aspect of my life. As for financial requirements, I have federal loans that I am willing to take out to cover what I cannot pay out of pocket initially. My family also occasionally participates in my studies during vacations.
