AFGHAN CULTURE AND TRADITIONS Afghanistan caters to different cultures, languages and traditions and each group has its own unique character and way of life. Even after the country's infrastructure was severely destroyed during the civil war, people did not lose hope and started building their homes again. Even after such a tragedy, people have started gathering again at chai kahnas (tea house), also called Samawar, and in urban places like restaurants, they participate in sports, festivals and games. The band plays loud, harsh music. The people of Afghanistan mostly follow the Islamic religion. Afghans have a tradition of cultural and modern Afghan music. Traditional Afghan music is a unique charm that is part of the celebrations. People indulge in the sacred celebration of Nawroz. It is the Persian New Year and is celebrated in areas where there is Persian influence or migrants from Iran. Afghans demonstrate fierce loyalty to their respective tribes. They also believe that Islamic law allows any “believer” to possess weapons on the orders of the ruler. This requirement becomes more important due to the geographical location and difficult living conditions to survive in the mountains. They present a very simple but at the same time very nourishing cuisine, consisting of hand-baked bread and vegetable or meat preparations. Their food is very rich and spicy, taking into account the climatic conditions. Their simple, down-to-earth lifestyle worked both for and against them. In the past, their friendly nature has often been confused with an attitude of compromise which has led to current political conditions. DEMOGRAPHICThe population of Afghanistan was 28,395,716 in 2010. and it reached an estimated thirty-one million in 2013 and includes 2.6 million Afghan refugees who temporarily reside in Iran and Pakistan. More than 99% of the population follows Islam. 80-89% of the population follows the practice of Sunni Islam and the remaining 10-19% follows the practices of Shia Islam. And the remaining 1% of the population follows Hinduism or Sikhism. And currently, there are thirteen major ethnic groups present in Afghanistan which are Pashtun, Baloch, Aimak, Turkmen, Chahar, Hazara, Arab, Pashai, Nuristani, Persian, Uzbek, Kyrgyz and the Baloch.
