Gross motor skills are becoming more and more established. For example, at ages three and four, “children walk smoothly and are able to balance on one foot for eight seconds or more” (Major Milestones in Child Development, 2013). Activities and resources to help with this development would be aimed at parents or teachers, allowing children to choose toys once they have finished playing. Additionally, “walking along a line on the ground or running around a tree will promote balance, concentration, and vigorous exercise” (Child Development: Ages 2 to 4, 2015). Between the ages of five and six, children become more independent and move with greater awareness. At this age, children are able to hop on one foot instead of balancing; they are able to throw objects instead of maneuvering them with their hands/fingers.
