    There are many approaches one can take to analyze a specific work. One such critical approach is called biographical criticism. It is the belief that authors reflect the events and feelings of their own lives in their writing. By taking this approach, the reader can learn more about the author through the literary work. They can also gain greater insight into the story by seeing the true meaning behind it and seeing the author's intention. Of the dramas we read in class, “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams is a play that truly captures the essence of biographical criticism. After studying Williams' life, it is clear that he echoes his own personal experiences throughout the play. Tennessee Williams is most closely linked to the character of Blanche DuBois in “A Streetcar Named Desire”. He suffered many traumatic experiences during his childhood, including having an alcoholic father, moving constantly due to his father's job, and becoming an outcast at school due to illness (Contemporary Authors Online).
