Jean Piaget was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, on August 9, 1896. He is the eldest of Rebecca Jackson and Arthur Piaget. His father was a professor of medieval literature and showed great dedication to his studies, which attracted the attention of M. Piaget. At the age of ten, Jean Piaget showed a great interest in molluscs and began frequenting his local natural history museum and spending hours exploring them. When Jean Piaget was eleven years old, he attended the Lycée Latin in Neuchâtel where he wrote his first scientific article on the albino sparrow. After this, he began writing many more scientific papers, and by the time he was a teenager, many of his papers on molluscs were widely published. After high school, Jean Piaget went to the University of Neuchâtel to study zoology and received his doctorate in natural sciences in 1918. The same year, he spent a semester studying psychology under Carl Jung and Paul Eugen Bleuler at the University of Zurich. He developed such a deep interest in psychology that he went to the Sorbonne in Paris, France, to study abnormal psychology. Jean spent a year working at an institute created by Alfred Binet in Paris where he evaluated standardized tests intended to measure a child's intelligence. Jean Piaget raises new questions about how children learn and decides to revise the test. In 1921, he became director of JJ. Rousseau Institute in Geneva. In 1923, Jean Piaget married Valentine Chatenay and had three children with her. He studied the intellectual development of his children. After many years of career in child psychology, Jean proposed four stages of mental development called schemata. Jean Piaget classifies these stages by age but he said ...... middle of paper ......h these stages. They use this theory by applying what a child can or cannot see, learn, hear and experience and it all depends on whether that child is at the stage where he can acquire the knowledge that is shown to him correctly and in a positive way.
