Essay / Summary of Wright Brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright
Throughout history, many things have changed the world and made it the way it is today. There have been inventions that have been successful and others that have failed. The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, were small-town boys. The brothers were interested in flight from a young age, they spent years studying how to fly, and they made several prototypes, and eventually the airplane. Wilbur Wright was born April 16, 1867 near Millwood Indiana. Orville was born on August 19, 1871. The brothers were four years apart. They did everything together and to most people they seemed like twins. “Since we were little children, my brother Orville and I have lived together, played together, worked together, and, indeed, thought together. » (Freedman). When the boys were young, their father often traveled for work. One day he came home with a toy he called the helicopter and he gave it to them. It was a flying toy that they quickly renamed “The Bat”. When the toy broke, Orville, then a first grader, was trying to make a new, better one (McPherson). As they grew older, they began trying to make flying machines and became very interested in the idea that human thought was possible. At one point, Orville said, "We could not understand that there was anything in a bird that could not be built on a larger scale and used by man." » (McPherson). They made kites that they tested and would eventually sell. The brothers opened a bicycle shop where they eventually began building their first glider (Freedman). Because the Wright brothers wanted to fly, they studied everything that existed in flight. They also studied birds and how... middle of paper ...... which consisted of a tower that could hold a weight of one thousand six hundred pounds. The weight was connected to a set of pulleys attached to the flyer. As the weight fell, the flyer was launched into the air. This allowed the flyer to be born and after that there was no problem staying in the air (Freedman). In 1906, the brothers received a patent after numerous refusals (McPherson). The brothers did something the world thought impossible for humans to do. Thanks to the determination of the Wright brothers, they managed to create the first airplane that has become part of everyday life. Without their work and efforts, life would be much different around the world and traveling around the world would take much more time. Since the invention of the airplane, the world has accomplished many feats thought impossible..
