  • Essay / Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein - 1120

It's hard to find one person in the world that you can always relate to. This friend knows your personality and your point of view. In the book Code Name Verity written by Elizabeth Wein, we see a unique and very special thing which is friendship. This incredible friendship that we see is between two girls, Maddie and Julie. Due to their jobs and missions, they both have to have code names throughout the book. These girls know exactly what kind of trouble they would get into if given a code name and, more importantly, the trust they would break in their friendship. The reason Maddie and Julie have such a strong friendship is the amount of time they spend together and the amount of attention they receive. Julie is a double agent who goes on life-threatening missions, and Maddie is a pilot who flies her. As she prepares to jump from the back of the plane, Julie says one of the most unique lines to have a blast. From the beginning to the end of the book, my understanding of friendship, the plot and their culture changed dramatically thanks to this single quote: "Kiss me boldly!" » (68). The friendship we see between Julie and Maddie is unique in its own way. They are able to express their entire past and speak like sisters. Throughout the book, tiny clues reveal the big plot twist and engage the audience throughout. The most important scene for me that changed my understanding of the book was on page 68. “Kiss me hard. "(68) This is part of a passage that really changed my thinking and also set the tone for Julie later in the book when Seeing this quote spoken between two girls made me think strongly about the closeness of their relationship. Page 69 was the...... middle of paper ...... is the amount of concern they have for each other, while also putting into perspective the time they know. We all couldn't accept how close they were from the hundred, two hundred or even 284 pages. Once we lay eyes on page 285, we see the moment of true sacrifice and friendship that Maddie had for Julie. Maddie didn't have to think twice when she pulled the trigger on Julie, she knew she was going to end her life in a much more peaceful and humane way. My thoughts were strictly focused on excitement and curiosity if they all did well, but everything changed in one page.Works CitedCode Name Verity Audio. YouTube. YouTube and Web.
