  • Essay / Biodiversity loss and extinction - 1204

Biodiversity loss and extinctionBiodiversity loss can lead to extinction and harm human life. It is our responsibility to take care of the environment. We bring in machines that harm the environment and destroy animal life. We must limit ourselves to the amount of land and resources we consume. There are major problems that cause species to become extinct and harm our way of life, while other animals are responsible for the change in the food chain. Many problems with biodiversity loss can be attributed to human interaction with the environment. One of the problems is habitat alteration and loss. Much of this problem lies in habitat destruction and land use for human consumption. The land is either used for agricultural purposes or for neighborhoods. Destroying habitats and building them for our own use can have a positive impact on our way of life but a negative impact on the environment. We would gain land to build land for crops and communities to build. Animal habitat would be destroyed and local species would move or die. There are restrictions on land deforestation and organizations help protect the land. One of the main causes of species extinction or endangerment is the entry of foreign species into a habitat. These species that are not native to the land can disrupt the food web of that community. These species take control of the food web and endanger certain other species. Native species become threatened, and over many years they either adapt to their new way of life, the foreign predator leaves or is killed due to the change in environment, or the species is killed off and disappears.
