Essay / Habitats, Environment, Zoos and Adaptation - 1103
The definition of habitat is the home or national environment of any plant or animal. The definition of adaptation is a function whose role benefits the organism and which evolves through natural selection. The first habitat visited was the fragile rainforest. At the zoo, the exhibit habitat was humid and there was a river, bamboo, rocks, and many trees and vines. In the real rainforest on earth, the rainforest habitat contains a wide variety of plants and animals. Most plants are typically evergreen and tall, blocking light from the forest floor. Rainfall is heavy and conditions are always humid. Some of the most common plants in the rainforest are Bengal Bamboo, Coconut Palm, Kapok Tree and Tualang. Some of the animals found here are the black-breasted tortoise, bamboo rattlesnake, and Timorese python. The first animal I observed was the Binturong or bear cat (anctictus binturong). Some adaptations include a muscular tail that must be used to grasp and hold objects. They also secrete odors under their tail that mark their territory in relation to other animals. Although the bearcat is classified as a carnivore, it eats large quantities of fruits and plants. They can also eat fish, small animals and lizards. The second animal I observed was the Burmese python (python molurus bivittatus). Some adaptations of this animal are that its body is incredibly muscular and, since it does not have teeth, it squeezes its prey with its body. An ordinary python has only one lung, but this one has two, which makes breathing easier by constricting. It eats mammals, birds and reptiles. The next animal we observed was the giant millet...... middle of a paper ...... of plants and animals. Rainfall is heavy and conditions are always humid. The second zoo habitat visited was the swamp. At the zoo, the habitat was humid and featured a swampy, watery, and muddy setting. The swamp environment is generally humid and temperatures can vary. Some of the vegetation includes many trees and grasses, including cypresses. The third habitat we visited was Tropic World, in South America. At the zoo there is a waterfall right at the entrance, you are high up on rocks and there are very tall trees. Temperatures are warm here averaging between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit and these areas are warm all year round. The next habitat visited is Australia. At the zoo, the habitat was lightly grassy but mostly flat. . The climate is temperate with precipitation less than 600 millimeters..
