Essay / Analysis of Othello's speech - 933
Othello is a man of romantic nature. He falls in love with the beautiful Desdemona. He was accused of stealing it from his father. Othello was of a different race and did not fit in with his family. Othello pleads for Desdemona and tells his story of who initially wooed her. Othello tells of the love his father showed him since childhood. It was like a match made in heaven that overcame many obstacles that stood in its way. Othello couldn't understand why he was good enough to work and fight alongside his father, but not good enough for his daughter. Othello has proven that he was once in Desdemona's father's favor. There is no better way to prove this than when Othello says in lines 127-131 of 1.3: His father loved me, often invited me, always questioned me about the story of my life, from year to year in the year, the battles, the sieges, the fortunes that I have experienced. .I have traveled it even since my childhood. Othello showed that the links had been there for years. He and Desdemona have known each other since childhood. Othello tried to explain to her that there was no poison, only a story of the events of his life and that she felt sorry for him. Desdemona showed courage and masculine attitude, which Othello fell in love with. Even with all the invitations, battles, sieges and fortunes they shared, he still did not consent to his daughter's marriage to Othello. Racism was very present even as far back as Shakespeare. However, in lines 133 to 135 of 1.3, Othello says: "At the very moment when he asked me to tell it, where I spoke of the most disastrous chances, of the accidents of travel due to floods and field, of landscapes of the the thickness of a hair, with a fatal breach imminent, this is where Othello describes all the clothes in which...... in the middle of a paper ...... with which Mona fell in love, these are the dangers through which he passed. Like many women, Desdemona fell in love with the dangers and thrill of the hunt. It seems that most of us women enjoy the adventures of pursuing what we know to be wrong. This passage is a monologue or speech from Othello to Desdemona's father. He tells how she became his wife. Othello asks Desdemona's father for his blessing and to start a family. Othello states that his father has treated him well for many years and should honor his daughter for loving such a man. Othello and Desdemona are a love made in heaven. They are ready to fight side by side in battles and love each other in happy moments. Work Cited Cohen, Walter, JE Howard, K. Eisaman Maus. The Norton Shakespeare.
