According to Mr. Robinson, this educational system was created in 1900: “Our educational system was based on academic ability. And there is a reason: the whole system was invented all over the world, there was no public system before the century 1900. They all came into existence to meet the needs of industrialism” (Robinson, Ken). Using this example, he showed what needed to be changed. Education was not done to create individuals, it was done to train workers. It shows that the ultimate goal of school is not to show our children the best future, but to train them to be what they are not. He continues his criticism of the education system by proclaiming: “First, the subjects most useful to work are at the top. So you probably kindly avoided the school things when you were a kid, the things you loved on the field, you'll never get a job doing them” (Robinson, Ken). The school tries to push children to succeed only in one area, instead of letting them discover who they are.
