Essay / Modern language In Politicians...
Orwell presents that the word fascism now only means something unwanted (Orwell 514). But fascists are not dangerous. You're not going to have a conversation with a fascist for hours and then, after finding out he's a fascist, run away in fear. The definition of fascism has been obscured by politicians. They did this by presenting a speech after giving in front of patriotic crowds and claiming that fascists wanted to harm your family. These speeches arouse so much enthusiasm in the crowd that everyone ends up saying that the fascists are evil and that they must be hunted down. When in fact fascism is just a political system in which the government tries to put the well-being of the country before the well-being of individuals by having a dictator. The distortion of these words by politicians often leads, over time, to harmful side effects. The translation of fascism along with many other words has created a lack of tolerance towards foreign ideas and cultures. We don't tolerate fascists just because we think it's something bad. The problem of translating fascism to an alternative definition has also arisen today with the meaning of the word Islam. Islam is a religion, but if you ask any panel of average Americans, you'll probably understand that Islam means terrorist..
