Is He Ready to Get Sober? And if he's not ready, what will Karen do? As a counselor I cannot advocate or encourage divorce, it must be her decision and hers alone. I can only offer to pray for her and her situation that God will show her the best way to handle this. God tells us that indulgence is bad, a song. The books of Proverbs, Hosea, Isaiah, Ephesians, Galatians, and 1 Thessalonians explain why indulgence in alcohol (wine) is wrong. The scriptures talk about it from the perspective that alcohol makes you a fool and leads to fights. Another is that wine deprives the senses. From a Christian perspective, I know that alcohol or any other excessive indulgence is a sin and should be avoided. Likewise, we as Christians should avoid those who are gluttonous. Karen has decisions to make about her health, both physical and spiritual. If she attends Bible-based meetings and continues therapy, she has a good chance of recovery. She also needs to know that her husband, friends, and other family members are also there to ideally support her in their sobriety.
